The rapid development of dental microscopy, utilised above all in root canal treatment, enables a tooth complaint to be cured where until recently the tooth in question would have been removed.
The efficiency of root canal treatment is very high. This treatment is decidedly less expensive and invasive than removal of a damaged tooth and its replacement with a prosthetic bridge or implant.
Root canal (endodontic) treatment is frequently the consequence of a long-lasting and untreated process of decay. The bacteria responsible for the decay move with time in the direction of the dental pulp, commonly known as the nerve, leading to infection and inflammation. With the pulp being highly innervated, the result of this inflammation is a strong discomfort difficult to endure. For this reason many patients opt unnecessarily for removal of the troublesome tooth.
A sick tooth may long present no painful symptoms, therefore we are always assisted by X-ray, this facilitating rapid detection of a problem.
Since bacterial invasion of the dental pulp is an irreversible process, treatment also involves removal of the diseased tissue from the root canal and its airtight filling, thereby closing the door to new infection.
A root canal is very narrow, making it impossible to view the interior without optical magnifying equipment. Our clinics are thus equipped with high-class microscopes for root canal treatment. Thanks to this specialist device the doctor sees what the naked eye alone does not, and what goes unseen may be the cause of later problems, including removal of a tooth.
Root canal treatment is performed under anaesthesia, the patient feeling no pain.
