The Polityka Passports were established by the Polityka editorial staff in 1993 as awards for original, questing artists crossing borders both artistic and geographical. The symbolic passport is evidence of artistic identity, of an artist of European, international renown. The passport is accompanied by an 'allowance', that is, a monetary prize amounting to PLN 10,000. On 13th January 2009 we award the Passports for the 16th time.
The Polityka Passports are awarded in the following categories: popular music, classical music, film, theatre, literature and the visual arts. The list of past winners bears the names of such individuals as Leszek Możdżer, Kayah, Wojciech Kuczok, Rafał Blechacz, Dorota Masłowska, Anna Maria Jopek and Jan Klata. The awards were received last year by: Michał Witkowski (literature), Łukasz Palkowski (film), Michał Zadara (theatre), Joanna Rajkowska (the visual arts), Łukasz Borowicz (classical music) and Krzysztof „Grabaż” Grabowski (popular music).
Since 2002 the Chapter has also awarded its Laurels for Creator of Culture – individuals whose activity in the sphere of culture, organisation and promotion rises considerably above mediocrity. Last year this prize for an entire body of work was awarded by the Chapter to Andrzej Wajda.
